
Summer Engagement: The Carceral State
Andrea Brown was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from Ruskin High School. She just completed her freshman year at the University of Missouri where she is currently studying Political Science and Black Studies. From a young age, Andrea developed an interest in racial inequalities and the history that came along with it. Over the years Andrea became passionate about learning ways to fight social injustices. Andrea’s upcoming series on Race and American Prisons reflects her determination towards prison reform. She plans to continue her fight with social justice through her dreams of attending law school.

Race & American Prisons: The Soledad Brother
The purpose of this theme is to address America’s race problem by engaging in a conversation surrounding its harsh and inhumane prison system. This issue will be addressed through learning about the story of George Jackson and the Soledad Brothers.
