A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words: How African American Artists Saw American in Times of Chaos and Calm Part 3

August 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

by Lauren Tackett

The American art industry harbors many of the same white-washing tendencies as American literature, resulting in skewed representations of the American Story. In this series, I would like to focus on African American artists’ depictions of their experience in American society, and how those pieces have had a direct impact on American culture. From pieces depicting walking through a museum to sitting in segregated diners, this series will discuss how the circumstances behind these artists and the America they experienced lead to the creation of their art pieces.
